Key activities
  • Strengthen regional agricultural research and extension systems so that they can deliver technological innovations tailored to the region’s food systems (climate-smart, nutrition-smart, gender-smart and youth-smart technologies).
  • Strengthening regional food security through integrated landscape management.
Targets

– Over 147,000 ha of land under integrated landscape management practices

– More than 2.1 million producers adopting climate-smart agricultural technologies and services

  • 128 technologies (30% of which are nutrition-sensitive) made available to farmers by the NCoS consortium, the CGIAR and other international research institutes
  • 70% of sub-projects selected as part of integrated landscape management plans and for which climate change resilience measures have been implemented;
  • Establishing an operational Spatial Information System to design and plan climate-resilient land management practices
Key achievements

CORAF’s in-country support enables stakeholders and partners to appropriate the results of research through technology parks: Read More : Link : https://www.coraf.org/actualite/le-technoparc-de-litra-transforme-les-pratiques-agricoles?locale=en

To strengthen the regional innovation system, CORAF has achieved the following: – 06 centres of specialisation were assessed on performance criteria:

  • The regional specialisation centres for tubers and dry cereals in Senegal, rice in Mali and livestock in Niger have maintained their positions;
  • Burkina’s national specialisation centre for fruit and vegetables has become a regional centre;
  • The National Centre for the Specialisation of Mangrove Rice in Sierra Leone maintains its position
  • Togo’s  National Centre for Specialisation in Pests and Diseases is judged capable of adding regional value in the field of plant protection

– setting up technology parks in specialisation clusters in 7 countries (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo), with a demonstration of 120 technologies – The Market for Agricultural Innovations and Technologies (MITA): 120 gender- and nutrition-sensitive technologies and innovations showcased

  • As part of the drive to strengthen integrated landscape management (ILM), 124 ILM initiatives have been mapped: 24 in Burkina Faso, 26 in Mali, 23 in Niger, 6 in Togo, 28 in Chad, 16 in Ghana and 1 in Sierra Leone.
